The only thing I was sure about when it came to the shoot was our photographer, Melissa Prosser Collazzo. When we saw her previous work, we knew she was perfect for us because her photos had so much life! She seemed to capture the true essence of couples in a way that goes beyond how they’re posed and styled so we were betting on her expertise to get us, at least, a few good shots.
I don’t know when it happened, but at some point, J.R. no longer worried about how he’d look on camera and once I found a dress to wear two days before our shoot, I didn’t worry about how I’d look either.
As I reflect on the engagement shoot and the days that lead up to it, the biggest lesson I learned was that there are reasons beyond taking engagement pictures to merely have them displayed at your wedding. I now think of the engagement photo shoot as a mini wedding day rehearsal because it gives couples a chance to work through jitters, rise above self-doubt and build trust in the person who will capture lasting images of the most special day in your life.
